KidSwitch Review and Giveaway...

Thanks to KidSwitch, we recently had the chance to try out this amazingly innovative safety product:

The KidSwitch Story:
"KidSwitch was created, developed, and brought to you by the father of a sweet and adventurous two year old little girl, named Taylor. In 1993, Taylor lived in a small house on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, California. Although it was "Sunny Southern California" her bedroom did not receive much light because the houses around hers were so close that they simply blocked the sun from her bedroom windows. Since she was too short to reach her light switch, she was constantly asking her dad to come and turn the light on for her. And, the light would often be left on all day because she couldn't reach it to turn it off.One day, Taylor set out to turn on the light herself. She built a makeshift "ladder" out of some of her toys. However, because Taylor was only two years old, and did not have an engineering degree, the "ladder" did not work and she fell, thereby suffering a slight injury. After her fall, Taylor's dad did not want her to keep making "ladders," did not want to have to keep turning the bedroom and bathroom lights on and off for her all day, and did not want to simply leave the lights on all the time, so he set out to find a better way to help Taylor safely reach and turn on and off the light switches. After several different attempts, the mechanics of how to attach the switch and the design for the switch took shape, and Taylor's dad began the process to patent, trademark, manufacture, and sell KidSwitch. It all began that day in 1993, when one dad wanted to help his own daughter safely reach and turn on and off her room lights. Since 1995, KidSwitch has been providing a helping hand to little ones and their parents. We are happy now to extend that hand to you!

KidSwitch is a light-weight, yet sturdy, glow-in-the-darklight switch extender, that can be used with either toggle or decora style light switches. KidSwitch can be installed and used on any single, double, triple, or more toggle or decora style switch plate.(For decora switches, the adapter is required). KidSwitch extends down 12" from the switch, allowing toddlers to safely reach and operate room lights. To install on a toggle switch, you only need a screwdriver!Remove the existing switch plate screws, and replace them with the KidSwitch screw sets.To install on a decora switch, no tools are required! Simply peel and stick the adapter and then snap the KidSwitch into place! To operate and turn the light on -simply push the moon handle up.To turn the light off -simply pull the moon handle down."

What we thought: It really is no wonder KidSwitch has won the Buzzillions Reviewer's Choice award 3 years running. This product is truly ingenious! We have a 4 yr old and a 21 month old, both who want as much(or more) independence as we will allow them and this product has helped us tremendously! We put our KidSwitch in the bathroom, where we knew we would get the most use out of it. When we moved to our new home, B built a super nice 2 person step stool for the kid's bathroom because of course any time big sister was at the sink, little brother wanted to be there too...it actually is really great for hand washing and tooth brushing, but is a little too large to move back and forth to the light switch and the bathroom isn't big enough to have 2 step stools. I have actually seen A stretch way across the bathroom from the sink to the wall with the light switch to turn the light on and off. WAY DANGEROUS! We had resorted to asking mommy and daddy to turn the light on and off. Then came the KidSwitch. A and D can now easily turn the light on and off, saving B and I time, saving electricity, giving them more independence and most importantly KEEPING THEM SAFE!! I don't think the kids get the safety aspect of this product, but they really do love it:) The KidSwitch was super easy to install, easy to clean(just wipe down with a little disinfectant), glows in the dark and is fun for the kiddos. And at under $10, quite affordable...definitely a winner in our book:) KidSwitch is a must-have for independent kiddos whose parents want the peace of mind this product affords:) ABCD Diaries gives KidSwitch an A+!!
